Home Made Loop System
Home made loop:
My husband made a loop for my TV/Computer Room by using an inexpensive 25 watt stereo amplifier and telephone wire (the kind that goes to the phone outlet through the house walls, not the kind that goes from the outlet to the phone).
He measured the phone wire to the size of the room, plus a couple of extra feet to get from the location of the loop down or up to the amplifier. Then he used just two of the four wires that are inside of the phone wire. With the wire completely circumventing the room, he brought the loose wire ends together. To ease communication lets say he used the red and the black wire. He pushed the ends of the green and yellow wire out of his way. Then he took the red wire on one end and attached it to the black wire on the other end of the telephone wire making one long wire with the red and black wire attached together. This wire allows the magnetic field to circle the room twice even though there is just one telephone wire going around the room. Then he took the remaining red wire and remaining black wire, which were at opposite ends of the telephone wire, and attached them to one of the stereo inputs on the amplifier. The other stereo input will not be used. These small amplifies come in stereo, and you only need a mono. Then he connected the audio out from the TV or VCR to the amplifier.
The connections required for this loop are very simple for someone that is technological based like a Radio Shack addict would be. If you aren't this way yourself, find someone that is, and they should be able to take this basic outline and be able to put the loop together for you. I put the loop wire at the base of my wall border near the ceiling. You can't even see it it there. It can also be put along the baseboard (but getting acrossed doors are a problem with this setup), or under the carpet, or even under the floor. This is a very cheap way to get wonderful wireless assistive technology through your T-coil.
